There are many signs that can help us understand Cristina Fiorenza’ s work, but none will ever be exhaustive right to the end. Exploration of different styles and media - from collage to painting, from painting to collage- takes a personal journey that gradually leads to states of consciousness repeatedly undefined. Which makes vibrant her artistic search is an absolute tension between reality imagined and real image. The collage is often the best instrument to express this fine intent: figures extrapolated from their original context and piloted until landing in a fertile ground for dream suggestions. Cristina Fiorenza weaves together her stories, orchestrates voices, sets figures that freely find their place in the space and leaves to the viewer’s perception the ability to move the invisible threads of a seemingly familiar scene that always escapes to an immediate understanding . Between the interstices of geometric constructions, solid presences in background or foreground enliven the landscape, lurks the unusual, the unexpected, the plant that grows revealing its profound origin: uncovered roots which hover it in the air. Everything seems to invoke an archetype which in fact remains unconfessed or incomplete.
In her work, therefore, seem to live together two very different cultural matrix: the first, German by adoption, is expressed in a language of squared lines and modernist architecture, with clear references to the Staatliches Bauhaus, the famous School of Art and Architecture which worked in Germany from 1919 to 1933. The second, originating from Campania, contains a fantastic repertory of images, makes intimate and popular songs resonate, whispers dream fables with everyday life taste.
The graft of the two reveals a balance based on imbalances: overturned perspectives and inclined planes welcome clear and clean scenes. Despite of the freedom of expression and the fervid imagination, nothing seems left to chance, everything seems to respond to a direction which from above observes with disenchanted and shiny look all that happens around.
